Evaluation 1 (Script)

Use -
On my front cover for my model i used a medium close up, only showing the models chest and above. this is so i could zoom up to the face of the model more to show emotion and express the feelings aswell. This idea i got from a famous magazine called RESPECT on the issue
 ( vhttp://s53.photobucket.com/user/spatemag/media/birdman-rapradar.jpg.html)
featuring Birdman. On this front cover Birdman is the main focus as he takes up the main portion of the page. This is also the same as mine, i wanted my model to be the main focus as it shows the reader everything they need to know before reading it such as: what type of genre it is, what age group the target audience is. I believe my model shows that as well as the RESPECT cover featuring Birdman. Ive applied this to my model by making him look dull with no emotion whilst not looking intimidating to create that hip hop genre feel.

On my contents page i used a long shot so the model is showing the outfit they are wearing. I did this because clothes are a big factor in picking your target audience. For instance in the Vibe magazine contents page featuring Kaye West as the model,
https://salehsidat69.files.wordpress.com/2012/05/vibe-contents-page2.jpg
he has his body free so his outfit is visible. This magazine in particular shows that it is looking for a more mature audience, i can see this by the outfit the model is wearing. So i took this and applied it to mine by making the model wear an outfit suitable to my target audience which is around 16-21.

On my double page spread i used an image which overlaps both pages without important a fake background behind a studio took picture. As both pages are full of the same picture it gives a more chatty look to the magazine whilst looking professional and creative but it makes the reader intrigued to look at it. This is also seen in the GAME NOVA magazine featuring Jay Z.

Jay Zs head overlaps onto two pages which gives a creative feel to the page rather than being basic. It really makes your magazine stand out from others.

Develop-
On my front cover I used a white model because I saw that the majority of the famous hip hop covers they have black stars on the front. So I wanted to add a more unique feel to my magazine. I also thought that if I make the model wear more casual clothes which this generation of teenagers usually wear then they will relate to it and maybe be attracted to buy it.

On my contents page I included an editors note at the top right of my cover including a signature. I also overlapped a shape with an image of a model posing as the editor. I also made the model wear lighter clothes so it seemed more of a friendly magazine compared to others so a wider audience can be targeted.

Finally on my double page spread, i made the model use an indirect pose with his hands holding his hood so it give a more hip hop effect. The look created a more intimidating feeling so you can attract the correct audience.

Challenge-

The colour scheme on my front cover has no extremely dark colours like the other hip hop covers do which mainly feature black. I tried to feature more dull colours whilst still adding a splash of primary colours to stand out from the audience.

On my contents page the layout i used was very specific because everything just about fit in in its own place. I divided the page into 2 so one side was for cover lines and the other for the model and editors note.

For my double page spread i used a natural city background at night with the street lights on creating a very creative look for the magazine. This background really makes my magazine stand out as it is very unique.

Feedback

I got the feedback from a Facebook post i posted on my personal profile which was available to family and friends. A mixture of ages and genders commented, some family members, some close friends it was a mixture of views which helped me. I only used my double page spread because that was the main piece i was unsure on which i needed other peoples views because i couldn't see what to change, overall i believe this was great help.

Here you can see my front cover with most of the layers i used. as you can see on the text layers for the main cover line and titles/headings i used several blending options to retrieve the look i was going for.  I used bevel strongly to make sure it looked more hip hop style for my titles.

I have included my final image and this is possibly the final piece of my contents page, i may come back to do a few touch ups.

Research & Planning - Magazine Progress 22

I have now included an image of the model.

Research & Planning - Magazine Progress 21

As you can see i have edited the size of the coverless and repositioned a few so it fits better around the model once i import the image. I might in the future edit the font i have used, i have already just lowered the size to 14 from 18

Research & Planning - Magazine Progress 19

Now i have included my sub headings to describe what each story is going to be about. I used a small thin blue font so it fits perfectly in the small amount of space given. It also stays with the house style matching the title.

Research & Planning - Magazine Progress 18

Here are the main coverlines for each story, i have used a bevelled font which is previously used on my other pieces. It is a grey so it stands out from the rest but doesn't clash. It fits perfectly with the surroundings.

Research & Planning - Magazine Progress 17

Here you can see the i have used white/grey numbers for the page numbers. This is so it stands out from the background but stays with the same house style.

I decided to use a dark grey as my background so the letters stood out to the reader (the colour i used for the letters). Then i used blue for my title so i was sticking with the house style.

After i had finished my double page spread, i realised my page was too small so i had to make the page bigger and spread everything out.

Research & Planning - Magazine Progress 13

Here i have included a quote just above the space i have left for the image i still need to get. I have used purple because i have used purple in my other documents so it setting a house style/theme. I have changed the positioning of the drop capital swell so it is more aligned and gives a more professional look.

Here you can see i have used a drop capital at the beginning of my story about Sef. I have then used a title which appeals to the reader and introduces the documentary.
